Magnet Releasing buys ‘Europa Report’

Sharlto Copley stars in Sebastian Cordero's sci-fi thriller

Magnet Releasing has acquired U.S. rights to Sebastian Cordero’s sci-fi thriller “Europa Report,” starring Sharlto Coply, with plans for a release later this year.

The film was produced by Wayfare Entertainment’s Ben Browning and financed by Wayfare Entertainment and China’s Sil Metropole. Wayfare’s Michael Maher and Jeremy Kipp Walker exec produced.

Sierra-Affinity’s Nick Meyer is handling international rights and will be screening the film at the European Film Market in Berlin.

The script, penned by Philip Gelatt, follows a contemporary mission to Jupiter’s moon Europa, to investigate the possible existence of alien life within our solar system. Project was developed in collaboration with NASA, JPL, SpaceX and other members of the scientific community.

It’s Cordero’s first English-language project. He’s a native of Ecaudor with credits on “Cronicas,” “Rabia” and “Pescador.”

Magnet is the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures. The deal was negotiated by Magnolia’s Dori Begley and Peter Van Steemburg with CAA on behalf of the filmmakers.
