A24 plans to release Kevin Smith’s monster movie “Tusk” in the U.S. in the third quarter of next year.
The film — which is currently shooting — stars Justin Long, Michael Parks, Genesis Rodriguez, and Haley Joel Osment. Producers are Demarest Films’ Sam Englebardt, David Greathouse and Shannon McIntosh.
Originating from one of Smith’s SModcasts, it follows a journalist — played by Long — who encounters a worldwide adventurer (Parks) and finds himself a plaything in the gruesome plot of a deranged killer.
“I’m as happy as the day Miramax bought ‘Clerks’ back in ’94!” Smith said. “We’re so lucky A24 fell in love with our walrus picture and jumped in the pool with us. I was a big fan of how they released ‘The Bling Ring’ and ‘Spring Breakers,’ so I was praying ‘Tusk’ would take root there. If anyone knows how to bring this flick to the masses, it’s them!”
Smith is directing from his own script, which evolved from Episode 259 of his Smodcast podcast. Smodcast Pictures produced “Red State” and the animated “Jay & Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie.”
