John Cusack appears especially severe in this first publicity photo from his new role in David Cronenberg’s “Maps to the Stars,” the director’s long-in-development thriller about celebrity obsession.

In the role, Cusack plays Los Angeles-based psychotherapist and life coach Stafford Weiss, who has made his fortune with self-help books promising happiness.

His wife, played by Olivia Williams, is the overbearing mother-manager of their 13-year-old son (Evan Bird), a TV star and recent drug rehab grad; their estranged daughter is played by Mia Wasikowska.

Julianne Moore, Robert Pattinson and Sarah Gadon also star in the movie, shooting in Toronto and Los Angeles. “Maps” is co-financed by eOne and Prospero Pictures and produced by Prospero Pictures’ Martin Katz together with SBS Prods.’
