The studio announced it will release “Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa,” a “Borat”-like portrayal of a grand-father behaving badly, on Oct. 25. The 2D-only spoof film, which was budgeted for approximately $15 million, bumped Par’s Hispanic spin-off of “Paranormal Activity” to Jan. 3, 2014.
The October date for “Bad Grandpa” mirrors what Par did with “Jackass 3D” in 2010. That film currently holds the second-highest domestic opening in October with $50 million.
Meanwhile, Par had success the first weekend in January last year with “The Devil Inside.” That time frame historically has been a solid play period for horror films, including this year’s “Mama,” from Universal.
Par’s new “Paranormal” spin-off recently wrapped principal production. “Bad Grandpa” already is in the can.
