Helena Bonham Carter Joins Disney’s ‘Cinderella’ as Fairy Godmother

Helena Bonham Carter, who will next be seen in Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer’s “The Lone Ranger,” will play the fairy godmother in the studio’s “Cinderella.”

Kenneth Branagh is directing the live action retelling of the fairy tale, that stars “Downton Abbey’s” Lily James in the title role. “Game of Thrones'” Richard Madden plays the prince, while Cate Blanchett is set as the wicked stepmother.

Allison Shearmur, David Barron and Simon Kinberg are producing “Cinderella” for Disney.

While Disney has locked down a flurry of release dates for its upcoming tentpoles over the next several years, “Cinderella” does not yet have a place on the calendar.

“The Lone Ranger” rides off into theaters July 3.
