Fox 2000 has bought a pitch from Chernin Entertainment and screenwriter Patrick Aison that is based on an NPR report about drug trafficking in Ecuador.

Chernin will produce with Chris Cowles and Chris Fenton executive producing. . David Ready is overseeing for Chernin and Nick D’Angelo and Elizabeth Gabler will oversee for the studio..

The November 2013 report “How the Government Set Up a Fake Bank to Launder Drug Money” revolves around of how the US government set up a fake bank to launder drug money in order to catch some of the top South American drug traffickers.

Hollywood has always been intrigued by the drug trafficking milieu (“Traffic,” “Blow”) and that interest continues, with this pic joining others in development including Paramount’s “Cocaine Cowboys” with Mark Wahlberg attached to star.

Aison has become one of the hot writers in town having just penned the script Blacklist “Wunderkind” that J.J. Abrams is producing and Paramount is distributing. Besides “Wunderkind,” Aison is also producing the highly-anticipated event series “Wayward Pines” for Fox.
