First Look: Evangeline Lilly in ‘The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug’ Photo

Will play elf warrior in upcoming sequel

Though we are in the heart of the summer blockbuster season, its never to early look to the future and New Line has given a glimpse of a new character that will appear in the “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” with the release of the photo of elf warrior Tauriel, played by Evangeline Lilly in the upcoming installment.

The photo was first released on EW.com showcasing Lilly in attack mode. Lilly’s Tauriel is one of a handful of new characters expected to appear in the upcoming installment.

Earlier this year New Line released a photo of Orlando Bloom’s Legolias making his return as well as introducing another new character, Bard the Bowman played by “Fast and Furious 6” actor Luke Evans.

The photo doesn’t give much of hint of how she will play in the story but it is a hint that Warner Bros. and New Line are already revving up the campaign for the film which as already saw the previous installment bring in more than a billion worldwide. Expect a teaser trailer to bow in the next month, maybe with New Line’s highly anticipated horror pic “The Conjuring” or Warners and Legendary’s tentpole “Pacific Rim.”
