Dito Montiel’s heist drama “Empire State” will have its world premiere on March 19 as the opening night film of the Gasparilla International Film Festival in Tampa, Fla.

Randall Emmett and George Furla’s Emmett/Furla Films financed. “Empire State” stars Dwayne Johnson, Liam Hemsworth, Emma Roberts and Jerry Ferrara. Story, penned by Adam Mazer, centers on two childhood friends who plan to rob an armored car depository, and the NYPD officer who stands in their way.

The film is based on a 1982 robbery in New York City that was described at the time as the largest cash robbery in U.S. history.

“Empire State” was shot in and around New Orleans in late spring and early summer last year.
