Ellen Barkin Lands Female Lead in Robert De Niro Pic ‘Hands of Stone’

Edgar Ramirez is also on board

Ellen Barkin is set to co-star with Robert De Niro and Edgar Ramirez in the Roberto Duran biopic “Hands of Stone.”

Usher Raymond is also on board to star. Jonathan Jakubowicz wrote and is directing the pic.

Script is based on the true story of legendary boxer Duran who rose from the slums of Panama to become one of the great boxers of his era. His rivalry with Sugar Ray Leonard is considered one of the fiercest in boxing history.

Barkin will play the wife of Duran’s trainer Ray Arcel, whom De Niro plays. Ramirez portrays Duran while Raymond plays Leonard.

Jakubowicz produces along with Jay Weisleder, Carlos Garcia de Paredes and Claudine Jakubowicz.

Pic marks the third time Barkin and De Niro have appeared together, previously co-starring in “This Boy’s Life” and “The Fan.” She is repped by CAA, Untitled Entertainment and Kami Putnam-Heist.
