LONDON — The Edinburgh Intl. Film Festival, one of the U.K.’s top movie events, is to introduce a Gala section, which will present U.K. premieres of major British and international films.
Artistic director Chris Fujiwara is also bringing in a number of other new strands for the 2014 edition, which runs June 18 to 29. These include a German Focus, which will celebrate the best in German cinema, and a strand of family films entitled For the Family.
Genre films and edgy fare will be featured in another strand, which replaces Night Moves, and the New Perspectives strand will showcase new fiction and documentary filmmaking that “raises challenging questions about the medium,” according to the fest.
Strands continuing from 2013 include American Dreams, Director’s Showcase and Films on Film.
The Michael Powell Award and the International Competition will continue, with titles selected from across the program.
The German Focus will include screenings of new and retrospective titles, which will run parallel to a program of Industry Events, with members of the German film biz in attendance.
