Comic-Con: Vin Diesel’s ‘Riddick’ Debuts Trailer

Sci-fier set for Sept. 6 release

Universal has unveiled an action-laden red-band trailer for “Riddick” — the third installment in the Vin Diesel sci-fi series.

Studio timed the release of  the trailer to coincide with the film’s panel at Comic-Con. The first images are of a winged monster seeking prey, followed by Diesel putting on his sunglasses.

The film, from writer-director David Twohy, picks up with the title character stranded on a desolate planet and fighting a wide array of alien predators — along with mercenaries seeking their bounty, since Riddick is also an escaped convict. The trailer includes a memorable scene of a chained Riddick kicking a machete into one of the mercenaries.

“Riddick” opens in the U.S. on Sept. 6.
