Carter on Erickson for ‘Lincoln’

Eye on the Oscars 2013: Art Direction

“Lincoln”
Production designer Rick Carter on set decorator Jim Erickson

“When I started on ‘Lincoln’ I wanted someone who had the experience and gravitas to help tell the story, and Jim understood how to work with me — not only in creating the physical look of the White House, but also in the sense of the feeling we wanted to evoke. We did a lot of research for Lincoln’s office (and) made it the most accurate version that’s probably ever been done. We (made sure) every room had the right sense of character and history.”
