‘Blue Caprice’ opens New Directors/New Films

Full slate of 25 features closes with 'Our Nixon'

“Blue Caprice,” Alexandre Moor’s Isaiah Washington starrer that bowed at Sundance earlier this year, will open the 2013 edition of New Directors/New Films, the annual festival co-presented by Film Society of Lincoln Center (also the org behind the New York Film Festival) and Gotham’s Museum of Modern Art.

“Our Nixon,” Penny Lane’s found-footage doc about Richard Nixon’s presidency, has been tapped to close the fest of 25 features, including 19 narrative offerings and six documentaries. Seventeen shorts will be screened as well.

Also on the slate is “Towheads,” Shannon Plumb’s identity-swapping comedy about a Brooklyn wife in which Plumb stars alongside her real-life children and her husband, “Blue Valentine” helmer Derek Cianfrance. Also falling somewhere between reality and fiction is Sophie Letourneur’s French comedy “Les Coquillettes,” about a filmmaker named Sophie and her girlfriends at the Locarno Film Festival.

With an international lineup that this year also includes Li Luo’s Chinese/Canadian pic “Emperor Visits the Hell,” O Muel’s Korean outing “Jiseul” and Marcelo Lordello’s Brazilian drama “They’ll Come Back,” the fest focuses on discovering and supporting emerging film creatives. The completed slate fills out a roster that had already been announced to include seven pics including Shane Carruth’s “Upstream Color” and Sarah Polley’s “Stories We Tell.”

“Blue Caprice,” about two snipers on a shooting spree, kicks off the fest March 20, with the closing night set for March 31.
