Benedict Cumberbatch Heads to the Jungle in ‘Lost City of Z’

James Gray is directing the pic

Benedict Cumberbatch is in negotiations to star in Plan B’s “The Lost City of Z.”

James Gray is directing, with Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Anthony Katagas producing for Plan B. Panorama Media will finance the pic.

Story is based on the David Grann book and follows Percy Fawcett, a British colonel who disappeared in the 1920s searching for a mythical city he had said he had discovered on a prior expedition.

Cumberbatch recently dropped out of the Legendary horror pic “Crimson Peak,” and this may be the project he has decided to do in its stead. The UTA and Conway van Gelder Grant repped-Cumberbatch looks to have a busy fall ahead of him with “12 Years a Slave,” “August: Osage County” and “The Fifth Estate” all set to bow.

He is also expected to shoot the biopic “The Imitation Game” this fall.

News was first reported by Deadline Hollywood.
