Anchor Bay Harbors Tribeca Title ‘Mr. Jones’

Distributor nabs horror thriller just ahead of its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival

Day Two of the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival brings news of a second title picked up for distribution, with Anchor Bay snagging North American rights to horror outing “Mr. Jones” the day before its world preem at the fest on Friday.

Karl Mueller writes and directs the pic, about a young couple (Jon Foster and Sarah Jones) whose retreat to a remote cabin is lent a sinister edge by their discovery of a reclusive neighbor, Mr. Jones. Mueller previously penned 2011 film “The Divide” and also wrote the script for “The Devil’s Rapture,” the Rufus Sewell starrer on the docket for an October release.

Acquisition of “Mr. Jones” comes a day after another Tribeca film, “Red Obsession,” was picked up before its Tribeca bow. It’s a good start for Tribeca, which is generally not viewed as a robust film market but nonetheless logged an acquisitions record last year that saw deals made for 37 of the 60 available titles.

“Mr. Jones” is produced by Ross M. Dinerstein of Preferred Film and TV and exec produced by Content Film’s Jamie Carmichael. Movie will be the third of Dinerstein’s pics to be released by Anchor Bay, following 2011 post-apocalyptic outing “The Divide” and 2007 comedy “The Grand.”

“Mr. Jones” joins an Anchor Bay slate that also includes “The Lords of Salem,” “Jayne Mansfield’s Car” and “No One Lives.” Exact release timing and strategy for “Mr. Jones” remains to be set.
