Broadway veteran Alice Ripley and Robert Clohessy will play spouses in the indie drama “Sugar!,” with filming set for next summer.

Lauren Rayner is producing, and “My Life as Abraham Lincoln” producer-director Shari Berman is on board to helm. Leora Kalish’s script focuses on the middle-aged piano teacher wife of a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate who secretly forms an all-women rock band on a dare.

Ripley will portray the wife who forms the band, dubbed Sugar. She won a Tony for best actress in a musical for the 2009 play “Next to Normal.”

Ripley hosts her own YouTube channel (ripleytheband) and has produced more than 300 videos. Her songs in the film will be inspired by such artists such as Supertramp, Fleetwood Mac and Elton John.

Clohessy’s credits include TV series “Oz,” “Boardwalk Empire” and “Blue Bloods.” Rayner’s producing credits “Moving Forward” and “The Days God Slept.”
