AFM: Samantha Morton-Helen Hunt’s ‘Decoding Annie Parker’ Picks Up Traction (EXCLUSIVE)

Story centers on finding hereditary links to breast cancer

“Decoding Annie Parker,” starring Samantha Morton and Helen Hunt (pictured above), is picking up momentum with sales in multiple territories at the American Film Market.

Additionally, Fawkes Partners LP has acquired controlling interest in “Decoding Annie Parker” from its Canadian investors, Media House Capital Corporation and the Crystal Wealth Strategic Yield Media Fund. Fawkes managing partner Sidney Powell has become an executive producer as a result.

“Decoding Annie Parker” is directed by Steven Bernstein from a screenplay he wrote his son Adam Bernstein.

The story centers on two women whose parallel lives are devoted to finding a hereditary link to certain types of breast cancer. Morton portrays the title character, who loses her mother and sister to the disease before facing down cancer herself while portrays real-life geneticist Mary-Claire King, who spends 16 years proving her widely dismissed theory that genetics plays a role in some breast cancers.

Annie Parker’s husbands are played by “Breaking Bad” star Aaron Paul and Bradley Whitford, star of “Trophy Wife.”  Rashida Jones, Richard Schiff and Alice Eve also star.

“Decoding Annie Parker” received the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize at the Hamptons International Film Festival.

Mimi Steinbauer’s Radiant Films International is handling foreign rights at AFM with sales in Iceland (Myndform Ehf), Israel (Forum Film), Italy (Koch Media), Portugal (ZonLusomundo), Hong Kong (InnoForm Media), Middle East (Gulf Films), Vietnam (BHD) and Brazil and Spanish-speaking Latin America (Swen).

The film is an Ozymandias Pictures presentation and a Unified Pictures Production in association with Fawkes Partners LP, Rix Pix, MediaHouse Capital and Nolan McDonald Films.

Powell founded the charity organization BRCA Gene Awareness, which she was inspired to create after meeting Steven Bernstein and seeing the film, and oversaw a series of fundraising screenings of “Decoding Annie Parker” across the U.S. and abroad — which helped raise approximately $1 million for breast-cancer charities.
