Open Road Films has acquired U.S. rights to Eli Roth’s cannibal caper-shocker “The Green Inferno” with plans for a nationwide release.
“Green Inferno,” which was produced and financed by Worldview Entertainment, premiered Sept. 7 in the Midnight Madness section at the Toronto Film Festival.
Roth co-wrote the screenplay from his original idea with “Aftershock” co-writer Guillermo Amoedo. Pic centers on a group of student activists who, after crash-landing on a remote location, are held hostage by a native tribe they set out to help save.
CAA is repping domestic rights. Exclusive Media handles international sales.
News of the acquisition was first reported by THR.
