“Journey” has been set for an Aug. 8 release in the U.S. via Disney.
Lasse Hallstrom will direct from a screenplay by Steve Knight based on the book by Richard Morais. Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey and Juliet Blake are producing, with Participant’s Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King exec producers.
“This will be our sixth collaboration with our good friends at DreamWorks, and what a dream project this is, with an amazing line-up of talent and a story that’s totally in the Participant wheelhouse,” said Participant CEO Jim Berk.
Story in “Journey” centers on an Indian family moving to Southern France and opening an Indian restaurant that’s 100 feet across the street from a Michelin starred French restaurant.
Jonathan King will supervise for Participant, working alongside DreamWorks President of Production Holly Bario.
Besides “The Fifth Estate,” DreamWorks and Participant have teamed on “The Help,” “Lincoln,” The Kite Runner” and “The Soloist.”
Production will begin on the film next week in France and India.
Disney is distributing the film in the U.S. and some select international territories, while Mister Smith Entertainment is handling distribution in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. DreamWorks’ partner Reliance will distribute the film in India.
