The Weinstein Company has acquired U.S. rights to Wong Kar Wai’s “The Grandmaster” from Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures.

In addition, TWC has secured to unspool the pic in Australia, New Zealand the UK from French shingle Wild Bunch.

“The Grandmaster” is the opening film of the Berlin Film Festival, which kicks off today.

Pic was written by Wai, Zou Jingzhi, and Xu Haofeng, executive produced by Megan Ellison, and produced by Jacky Pang and Wai.

“Grandmaster” has already opened in China, where it’s grossed a healthy $50 million.

Pic is an epic martial arts drama set against the backdrop of 1930’s China and is inspired by the life and times of Bruce Lee’s mentor, IP Man.

TWC COO David Glasser and Michal Podell Steinberg, EVP of business and legal affairs and acquisitions with Chris Corabi on behalf of Annapurna and Attorney George Hayum for Fortissimo negotiated the deal.
