Jim Sturgess and Djimon Hounsou will topline indie political thriller “The Lion’s Share” with Nathan Morlando (“Citizen Gangster”) on board to direct.

Allison Black is producing alongside producer Genevieve Hofmeyr of Moonlighting Films (“Safe House”). Sales banner K5 International announced at Berlin that it has has taken worldwide rights.

“Lion’s Share” is co-written by Morlando and his Euclid 431 pictures partner and producer Black, who teamed on “Citizen Gangster.” Story centers on a journalist (Sturgess) who travels to Somalia to secure a career-making interview with a dangerous pirate (Hounsou), escalating the danger for both.

Lensing is due to start in September in South Africa and Kenya.

K5 co-founders Oliver Simon and Daniel Baur said project offers wide international appeal. “We’ve all seen the news stories about these modern day, high seas pirates but we’ve not seen them up close like this before,” added K5’s Carl Clifton.

The deal was arranged by Daniel Baur on behalf of K5 with Black and Bianca Levin on behalf of Euclid 431.

Sturgess and Hounsou are both represented by CAA. Morlando is represented by manager Steve Dontanville at Circle of Confusion and Levin at Gang, Tyre, Ramer and Brown Inc.
