Philipp Stoelzl’s “The Physician,” the English-language adaptation of Noah Gordon’s historical bestseller about a medieval healer who travels from England to Persia to learn the secrets of medicine, has attracted a slew of buyers across Europe.

Ben Kingsley, Stellan Skarsgard and Tom Payne star in the UFA Cinema production, which presold to Luxor in Russia, Bonton for the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Blitz for Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia-Herzegovina and Italia Film for the Middle East.

Universal is releasing “The Physician” in German theaters on Christmas day as a major holiday event.

Beta Cinema, which is handling “The Physician,” also saw brisk sales for its other big title, Bernard Rose’s “The Devil’s Violinist,” starring superstar violinist David Garrett in his feature debut as 19th-century Italian virtuoso Niccolo Paganini.

Produced by Berlin-based Summerstorm Entertainment, “Devil’s Violinist” likewise went to Luxor, Bonton, Blitz and Italia Film for the same territories as well as Frenetic in Switzerland.

Additionally, Wild Bunch Benelux took Uberto Pasolini’s British comedy “Still Life,” starring Eddie Marsan and Joanne Froggatt, while Spain’s Flins & Piniculas nabbed Mike Marzuk’s “The Famous Five” and “The Famous Five 2,” based on the works of British children’s writer Enid Blyton.
