Oscilloscope acquires rights to ‘Tiller’

Plans nationwide theatrical release for film

Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired North American rights to Martha Shane and Lana Wilson’s directorial debut “After Tiller.”

Oscilloscope plans a nationwide theatrical release for the documentary film followed by video-on-demand, digital, and home entertainment formats.

“After Tiller” explores third-trimester abortions in the wake of the 2009 assassination of practitioner Dr. George Tiller. The procedure is now performed by only four doctors in the United States, all former colleagues of Tiller.

The film was written by Shane, Wilson, and Greg O’Toole and produced by Shane and Wilson. David Laub and Dan Berger of Oscilloscope negotiated the deal with Cinetic Media on behalf of the filmmakers.

Alissa Simon gave “After Tiller” a positive review for Variety at Sundance: “Well contextualized and sensitively shot with extraordinary access, the pic reflects the personal, moral and ethical struggles of the doctors as well as their patients, and deserves the widest possible audience.”
