PARIS — Exclusive Releasing has acquired Anne Fontaine’s “Two Mothers,” the Australia-set drama toplining Naomi Watts and Robin Wright, for U.S. release.

Exclusive Releasing plans to bow the film, which world preemed in Sundance, in theaters and on VOD day-and-date.

Pic is the first acquisition for Exclusive Releasing, which was launched by Exclusive Media at Toronto.

Exclusive Media acquired U.K. and CIS distribution rights for “Two Mothers.”

Christopher Hampton penned the screenplay, which is adapted from Doris Lessing’s novel. It centers on two lifelong friends (Watts and Wright) who fall in love with each other’s sons, played by Xavier Samuel and James Frecheville.

The film is Fontaine’s English-language debut. She previously helmed Audrey Tautou starrer “Coco Before Chanel.”

Pic is produced by Philippe Carcassonne at Cine@, Dominique Besnehard at MonVoisin and Andrew Mason at Australia’s Hopscotch Features, which is owned by eOne. Gaumont co-produced, and reps the film in international markets.

Exclusive Releasing is headed by Scott Pascucci and Matt Brodlie.
