Morgan Freeman Set to Topline in ‘Lucy’

Universal takes worldwide rights, except France, Belgium and China

Paris-based EuropaCorp has confirmed that Morgan Freeman is set to star opposite Scarlett Johansson in Luc Besson’s actioner “Lucy.”

EuropaCorp CEO Christophe Lambert also confirmed Universal has taken worldwide distribution rights, except for France, Benelux and China; which will be handled by EuropaCorp, Belga Films and Fundamental Films, respectively.

Lensing will kick off in during the second half of September and will take place for the most part at the Cite du Cinema, Besson’s megastudio located on the outskirts of Paris.

The pic’s wide release is skedded for late 2014.

“This pact with Universal – a prestigious, international powerhouse — allows us to launch the production of ‘Lucy’ in excellent conditions,” said Lambert, referring to the fact that the movie is fully financed. “‘Lucy’ marks our first collaboration with Universal and we hope there will be many more to come.”

“Lucy” is produced by EuropaCorp and TF1 Film Production, and is backed by paybox Canal Plus.
