Lebanese Org. to Release Maroun Baghdadi Box-Set

Helmer was pioneer of new Lebanese cinema

The Fondation Liban Cinema is paying tribute to late great Lebanese helmer Maroun Baghdadi with a boxed set of the entire body of work by the auteur, who worked with Francis Ford Coppola and is considered the pioneer of new Lebanese cinema.

Baghdadi, known for pics that vividly portrayed Lebanon’s civil war, such as “Little Wars,” which screened at Cannes in 1982, is the only helmer from Lebanon to win a prize at the fest, where his 1991“Out of Life,” about a French photographer kidnapped in Beirut, took the Cannes Jury Prize. He died in 1993 when he was 43.

The Baghdadi box set has been curated by Beirut-based cultural preservation org. Nadi Lekol El Nas, which will unveil it in Beirut on June 7 and sell it from its website.
