Fox International Prods. Launching Two German Films

'Playing Doctor,' 'Riko' heading into production

Fox Intl. Prods. Germany is prepping teen comedy “Playing Doctor” and children’s drama “Riko, Oskar and the Pasta Detective.”

The company is moving ahead on the pair following the  success of its “Breakup Man,” which it touted as the top grossing German film so far this year with $24 million at the local box office. The projects were announced at Cannes.

“Playing Doctor,” directed by Marco Petry from a script he wrote with Jan Ehlert, is set to begin shooting  in Munich. It is a Lieblingsfilm Munchen production with Robert Marciniak and Philipp Budweg producing and has received funding from Hessen Invest and the German Federal Film Board.

FIP Germany will begin shooting “Rico” in late summer in Berlin and Leipzig with Neele Leana Vollmar directing. The movie, an adaption of Andreas Steinhofel’s children’s book, tells the story of young Rico embarking on a hunt through Berlin to save his friend Oskar from a kidnapper.

Alexandra Maria Lara (“Downfall”) will play Rico’s mother. Cast also includes Elyas M’Barek, Ronald Zehrfeld and Milan Peschl. The film has received funds from the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, the MDM Film Commission, the German Federal Film Board and the BKM.

The films will be overseen by Marco Mehlitz.
