Alpha Violet has run up a slew of international deals on the Croisette on Uruguay’s “So Much Water,” from Ana Guevara and Leticia Jorge, and Brazil’s “Colors,” helmed by Francisco Garcia.
Both films are by first-time directors, proving there is still life in the international arthouse market, even for non-name auteurs.
Alpha Violet sold “Water” to Japan’s Doma. Bowing at Berlin, “So Much Water,” a family dramedy set at a rain-swept resort, has also been bought by Cineteca for Mexico, Brazil’s Providence Filmes, Wild Bunch for Benelux, Germany’s Drei Freunde, Romania’s Transylvania Film and Russia’s A One.
Garcia’s black-and-white portrait of a group of friends who opt out of Brazil’s consumer society boom, “Colors” was licensed at Cannes to France’s Contre Allee and Japan’s Action. HBO Latin America acquired pan-regional pay TV rights to Latin America before Cannes.
In further deals, Alpha Violet has licensed Canadian Sean Garrity’s “Blood Pressure” to P & I Films for CSI and Baltic states, and acquired international sales rights to “Una obra de teatro,” the feature debut of Colombia’s Maria Gamboa, produced by Ruben Mendoza’a Dia Fragma and Thierry Lenouvel’s Cine-Sud Promotion.
