Lotus Entertainment, founded by former Inferno chairmen Bill Johnson and Jim Seibel, is selling the remake of smash Argentine adult romantic comedy “Elsa & Fred,” at AFM. It’s been pre-sold to Australia, Israel and Portugal, and sold upon completion to Latin America.
ICM is handling domestic sales.
Directed by “Il Postino” helmer Michael Radford, pic stars Shirley MacLaine and Christopher Plummer as widowed neighbors who form a deep bond.
The original Argentine-Spanish co-production, helmed by Marcos Carnevale in 2005 and pictured here, was a hit in Argentina and elsewhere in Latin America, collecting a clutch of awards on the festival circuit.
“Elsa & Fred” remake producers Matthias Ehrenberg, Jose Levy, Nicolas Veinberg and Ricardo Kleinbaum of Cuatro Plus Films have lined up other Latin American projects to re-version, including a movie spinoff of hit Argentine skein “Sonics” to produce in the U.K., and a U.S. remake of Adolfo Aristarain’s crime drama “Time for Revenge.”
