Pyramide Hooks Claudia Sainte-Luce’s ‘Cat Fish’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Pyramide Intl. has inked international rights for “The Amazing Cat Fish,” which topped Ventana Sur’s Primer Corte pix-in-post competition in Buenos Aires.

One of France’s foremost arthouse sales companies, Pyramide has experience with Latin American pics, having taken rights at previous Ventana Sur editions on two of the region’s biggest international breakouts in recent years: “Leap Year” and “Clandestine Childhood.”

The pic, produced by Mexico’s Jaqueca Films and Canibal Networks and France’s Good Lap Prods., is helmer-scribe Claudia Sainte-Luce’s first feature.

The semi-autobiographical story is about a lonely young woman working at a supermarket, who moves in with a colorful family and bonds with each of its members, finding a sense of belonging.

“Cat Fish” is now in post and on track for a major fest berth in late summer, said Pyamide Intl. sales head Lucero Garzon.

The Primer Corte’s five prizes included ¤15,000 ($19,440) for distribution in France from Gallic paybox Canal Plus’ auteur cinema channel Cine Plus Club.

Helmed by Mexico-based Michael Rowe, “Leap Year” won Cannes’ Camera d’Or for best first film in 2010, and sold to near 20 territories.

Benjamin Avila’s Directors’ Fortnight hit “Clandestine Childhood” sold to nearly 30 territories.
