Cannes Winner ‘The Missing Picture’ Gets U.S. Distribution

Strand planning spring release for Cambodian documentary

Strand Releasing has taken U.S. rights to Rithy Panh’s Cambodian documentary “The Missing Picture,” which won the top jury prize in Un Certain Regard at Cannes.

The film is set for a spring release. Strand plans to exhibit the film in U.S. fall festivals.

Missing Picture” centers on Panh’s search for a “missing picture” via his recreated vision of the atrocities Cambodia’s Khmer Rouge committed between 1975 and 1979. Panh uses clay figures intercut with archival footage and his spoken word.

Variety’s Justin Chang gave “The Missing Picture” a positive review at Cannes.

The deal was done between Jon Gerrans of Strand Releasing and Nicolas Brigaud-Robert of Films Distribution.

Films Distribution has also sold “The Missing Picture ” to Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, United Kingdom, Ireland, Japan, Benelux, Canada, Poland and Hong Kong.
