Ang Lee Joins 3D Creative Summit

Event runs March 27-28 at British Film Institute

LONDON – Helmer Ang Lee will take part in the first 3D Creative Summit in London.

The international event, funded by U.K. industry body Creative Skillset and organized by higher education institute Ravensbourne and the Intl. 3D Society, takes place March 27-28 at the British Film Institute’s Southbank facility in London.

Fresh off his success with “Life of Pi,” Lee will participate via a live link up from New York, joined by David Conley, “Pi’s” vfx consultant, in London.

The lineup of speakers for the event already includes renowned naturalist and broadcaster David Attenborough, who will discuss paybox BSkyB’s “Galapagos,” alongside Atlantic Prods.’ Anthony Geffen; Frank Passingham, director of photography at Aardman Animation; Robert Neuman, stereoscopic department head for Walt Disney Animation Studios; Phil Oatley and Meetal Gokul of New Zealand’s Park Road Post, who will discuss their work on “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”; Chris Parks, lead stereographer on Bryan Singer’s “Jack the Giant Slayer,” who will discuss the film following a screening; and DreamWorks Animation’s Phil McNally, who will showcase material from the studio’s latest feature “The Croods.”

“Given the notorious lack of resources out there for filmmakers embarking on a 3D project, it’s essential to have an event like the 3D Creative Summit,” said Neuman. “I’m excited to be speaking at the summit because I know I’ll find an audience of industry professionals who are as enthusiastic as I am about making great 3D films.”

The summit will also include a 3D Producers Lab, where selected producers will have access to leading 3D experts.
