Altitude Inks Deals on 14 Films Including Samuel L. Jackson Starrer ‘Big Game’

Buyers line up for 'Spooks,' '47 Meters Down,' 'Hangar 10'

LONDON — Altitude Film Sales has closed international distribution deals on 14 films, including “Big Game,” an action adventure starring Samuel L. Jackson as the U.S. President.

“Big Game,” which is written and directed by Jalmari Helander (“Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale”) and co-stars Onni Tommila as the President’s 13-year-old sidekick, has been sold to 16 territories to date.

The most recent deals were inked with Shochiku (Japan), Swen (Latin America), Pictureworks (India), Shoval (Israel), Gulf Film (Middle East), Multivision (Malaysia), Pioneer (Philippines), Thailand (IPA Asia Pacific) and Cinemania (former Yugoslavia). Entertainment One (U.K.), Ascot Elite (German-speaking territories and Switzerland) and Nordisk (Scandinavia) sealed deals in Cannes.

“Spooks: The Greater Good,” the action thriller from Shine Pictures based on the hit international TV series, was snapped up by Constantin (German-speaking Europe), Swen (Latin America), Gulf Film (Middle East), Cinesky (Airlines) and Cinemania (former Yugoslavia). Additional deals are in negotiation.

“47 Meters Down,” a tense, underwater thrill ride directed by Johannes Roberts, was sold to eOne (U.K.), Square One (Germany), Wild Side (France), Vendetta (Australia/NZ), All Media (CIS), Dutch Filmworks (Benelux), Gulf Film (Middle East), Pictureworks (India), Suraya (Malaysia), Shaw (Singapore), CMC (Taiwan), Impuls (Switzerland) and Cinemania (former Yugoslavia). The film is scheduled to commence principal photography in the second quarter of next year.

Daniel Simpson’s “Hangar 10,” a found footage sci-fi mystery from the producers of “Creep,” “Severance” and “Triangle,” has been bought by Nikkatsu (Japan), Gulf Film (Middle East) and Cinemania (former Yugoslavia).

“The Call-Up,” an immersive sci-fi action film marking the feature debut of commercials director Charles Barker, has been acquired by eOne (France, Benelux, Germany, Scandinavia, South Africa, South Korea), Mediaquest (Philippines), Impuls (Switzerland), Mono Film (Thailand), Gulf Film (Middle East) and Cinemania (former Yugoslavia).

“Son of a Gun,” an epic crime thriller directed by Julius Avery (“Jerrycan”) and starring Ewan McGregor (“The Impossible,” “August: Osage County”), Alicia Vikander (“A Royal Affair”) and Brenton Thwaites (“Maleficent”), has been acquired by Kadokawa (Japan), Ascot Elite (German-speaking territories and Switzerland), Mono Film (Thailand), D Productions (Turkey), Prorom (Hungary and Romania) and Mediaquest (Philippines). The film has already been acquired for distribution in other European territories, the Middle East and Indonesia, and Cinesky for airlines.

“Tiger House,” a contained high-concept thriller to be directed by rising theater director and filmmaker Thomas Daley, and starring Kaya Scodelario (“Maze Runner”), has been acquired by ZDF Enterprises (German-speaking Europe) and Gulf Film (Middle East).

“The Hooligan Factory,” a soccer-hooligan spoof directed by Nick Nevern (“Terry”), was bought by Gulf Film (Middle East) and Ascot Elite (German-speaking territories and Switzerland). Multiple territories were licensed by Universal Pictures International Entertainment on the eve of AFM.

We have closed deals on 14 films, including titles brought to the market for the first time such as ‘Spooks,’ ‘The Call-up’ and ‘Hangar 10,’ as well as ‘Big Game’ and ‘47 Meters Down,’ which we launched at Cannes. Buyers have become more discerning so the level of interest from distributors in our slate underlines its strong commercial prospects in a highly competitive market. We will be announcing further deals across our whole slate in the coming weeks.”
