Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s lovable, porn-addicted Jersey boy in “Don Jon” had the ladies buzzing over the weekend — but especially in Paramus, N.J., where the film had the eighth-highest gross in the country at AMC’s Garden State multiplex.
The pic’s Garden State gross of $25,000 in two days was driven largely by young adults and couples attending late-night screenings, according to exhibition.
The Jersey total also was elevated by group sales as women checked in on social media with their gal pals.

A manager at the Garden State theater said the majority of the ticket buyers were specialty film patrons. Paramus is a suburb of New York City.
“Don Jon,” which Gordon-Levitt wrote, directed and stars in, launched nationwide at 2,422 locations, totaling a solid estimated $9 million. Most of the film’s gross came from the coasts, said Relativity distribution topper Kyle Davies, who added that the film played “through the roof” across the East Coast.
“It’s a unique and daring take on the genre,” Davies said. “The bottom line is that we believe in Joe and want to be in the Joseph Gordon-Levitt business.”
“Don Jon,” which cost $5.5 million to produce, centers on a family-loving man in New Jersey, who develops an unrealistic expectation of women and relationships from watching porn. The comedy co-stars Scarlett Johansson has Gordon-Levitt’s love interest.
Relativity acquired the film at this year’s Sundance Film Festival for $4 million, with an additional standard P&A commitment for a wide release. The company agreed then to release the film wide, which was a stipulation for Gordon-Levitt.
Not surprisingly, the film’s top two-grossing theaters were the Regal Union Square in New York and L.A.’s Arclight Hollywood. Pic, however, received an overall soft ‘C+’ CinemaScore rating.
