Christoph Waltz has won his second Oscar for Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained” and his portrayal of a genteel bounty hunter.
Waltz won the Oscar category in 2009 for playing a sadistic Nazi in Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds.”
Waltz topped a deep field including Alan Arkin for “Argo,” Robert De Niro for “Silver Linings Playbook,” Tommy Lee Jones for “Lincoln” and Philip Seymour Hoffman for “The Master.”
It was the first time in Oscar history that all five acting nominees in a category were previous Oscar winners, with a total of 21 combined nominations.
Waltz won the Golden Globe and Bafta trophies for “Django,” in which he portrayed Dr. King Schultz, a traveling dentist who frees Django (Jamie Foxx) and mentors him.
“My unlimited gratitude goes to Dr. King Shultz and the creator of this awe-inspiring role, Quentin Tarantino,” Waltz said in his acceptance.
