The 20th Screen Actors Guild Awards will take place next Jan. 18 — Hollywood’s first major awards to set a date for next year.

SAG Awards committee chair JoBeth Williams made the announcement Friday.

The SAG Awards usually occur on a Sunday but the Jan. 18 date is a Saturday, thus avoiding a conflict with the National Football League conference championship games the next day. Awards show planners also have to deal with the 2014 Winter Olympics being set for Feb. 7 to Feb 23.

Next year will be the fifth time that the SAG Awards will have taken place on a Saturday, most recently in 2010.

This year’s show took place on Jan. 27. A day later, SAG-AFTRA signed a new three-year broadcast contract with TNT and TBS for its SAG Awards kudocast.

The announcement signaled that the union leadership had decided to retain the SAG Awards moniker. SAG and AFTRA merged last March.

The 2014 SAG Awards ceremony will be simulcast live on TNT and TBS, marking the 17th consecutive year the SAG Awards have been telecast on TNT and the ninth year on TBS. The date for the SAG Awards nominations announcement has not been set.
