On Feb. 1, TCM will debut the documentary “Oscar,” written, directed and exec produced by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman. Christopher Pavlick and Rick Spalla are also producing.

The docu will open the cabler’s annual “31 Days of Oscar,” a monthlong buildup to the ceremony by showing Academy Award-winning films.

It’s part of TCM’s 20th anniversary celebration, next April.

The documentary traces the history of the awards. Produced by Telling Pictures in association with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and Hollywood Newsreel, it will use clips from Oscar-winning and nominated films, plus behind-the-scenes ceremony footage from the archives of Hollywood Newsreel.

It will also feature interviews with winning and nominated notables from the industry.
