The National Board of Review gets a jump on kudos season by revealing its winners Dec. 4, with the gala set for Jan. 7 at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City.

In making the announcement today, the NBR also unveiled a logo and website redesign.


“The National Board of Review has been a premier film awards organization since 1909,” said NBR president Annie Schulhof. “We believe that our contemporary redesign and digital presence effectively communicates that the NBR is one of the leading voices in modern film appreciation.”

The org consists of filmmakers, industry pros, academics, students and film fans. It was created 104 years ago to support film as both art and entertainment. Each year, the group views more than 250 films (studio, independent, foreign-language, animated and documentary). Screenings often include discussions with directors, actors, producers, and screenwriters.

One of the NBR’s core goals is to nurture new filmmakers by awarding grants to film students and facilitating outreach to the Children’s Aid Society, the Ghetto Film School, Reel Works Teen Filmmaking, and Educational Video Center. Last year the NBR awarded grants to 19 filmmakers.
