Latvia Sends ‘Mother, I Love You’ on Oscar Run

Pic won main prize in Berlinale's Generation Kplus section

GDYNIA, Poland — Latvia has selected “Mother, I Love You” as its foreign-language film Oscar candidate.

Janis Nords’ movie, which is about a 12-year-old boy whose spiral of lies spins out of control, premiered at the Berlinale in Generation Kplus, and received the section’s main prize. It also won top prize at the Los Angeles Film Festival.

The film was produced by Film Studio Tanka, and is repped in international markets by New Europe Film Sales.

Two other films were on the short-list for Latvia’s Oscar entry. The others were Aigars Grauba’s “Dream Team 1935” and Ivars Tontegode’s “Mushroomers.”
