‘Sightseers’ spotted as PiFan Winner

Korean fantasy festival honors 'On The Job' and 'Secretly, Greatly'

HONG KONG – “Sightseers,” a British film about a pair of serial killers who specifically target other happy couples, was named as the winner of the Puchon Choice award at South Korea’s Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan.)

The film (pictured) was directed by Ben Wheatley, who will be honored by Variety at the upcoming Frightfest.

The festival, in its 17th edition, wrapped its competitive sections on Friday, but runs through the Armistice Day holiday weekend with replays of award winning and popular titles.

Earlier in the week it concluded the 6th edition of its NAFF project market (July 22-24). There “Baby” by Japan’s Ichikawa Kei was named the top project by a jury of industry executives.

Other winners at the festival included India’s Anurag Kashyap, who was named best director for his crime thriller “Ugly,” and Filipino star Joel Torre who was named best actor for his role in Erik Matti’s “On The Job.” Alice Lowe of “Sightseers” took the best actress prize, while “On The Job” also collected a jury prize.

The NH Nongyup Citizens’ Choice, or audience award, went to the recent local hit “Secretly Greatly,” which describes a band of North Korean spies who have gone native in the South.
