Simon Pegg, Luke Hemsworth Start ‘Kill Me Three Times’

Hit-maker Kriv Stenders directs quirky assassination thriller

HONG KONG — Luke Hemsworth, Simon Pegg and Alice Braga (“Elysium”) have boarded “Kill Me Three Times,” a crime thriller by Kriv Stenders, director of 2011’s biggest Australian film “Red Dog.”

Six weeks of lensing got underway this week in Perth. The shoot will take in ten locations in Western Australia, including wine-producing area Margaret River. Post-production will shift to Victoria.

Penned by Irish first-time screenwriter James McFarland, the film involves Pegg (pictured in “Hot Fuzz”) as a mercurial professional assassin, hired to kill the singer wife (Braga) of a wealthy man (Callan Mulvey). The story is told from three different points of view.

Production is by Laurence Malkin and Share Stallings (“A Few Best Men”) and former film industry administrator Tania Chambers. Finance comes from Screen Australia, ScreenWest, Jake Film Finance, Media House Capital and the Melbourne International Film Festival’s MIFF Premiere Fund.

The film is to be distributed in Australia and New Zealand by Hopscotch / eOne with international sales handled by Cargo Entertainment and WME repping rights in North America.

Other cast includes Teresa Palmer, Bryan Brown and Sullivan Stapleton (“300,” “Animal Kimgdom”.)

Based on a true story about a dog who seemed to have no owner, but who traveled across much of the continent to look for one master, Stenders’ “Red Dog” was a surprise hit in 2011. After a long theatrical run it finished with a cumulative of A$21.5 million (US$20 million at current exchange rates), making it the ninth biggest Aussie film of all time.
