HONG KONG — “American Dreams In China” and its director Peter Chan Ho-sun were the big winners at China’s Golden Rooster Awards held in Wuhan this weekend.

The picture, which was already one of the year’s top grossing Chinese films, was named as best dramatic feature, while Chan (pictured) was named as best director. The film’s star, Huang Xiaoming shared the best actor prize with Zhang Guoli from Feng Xiaogang’s “Back to 1942.”

Feng’s famine drama, which disappointed at the box office on release last December, actually scored the evening’s largest awards haul. Its Wu Tianming was presented a special jury prize, while the film also won for best adapted screenplay, best cinematography and best sound recording.

Actress Vicky Zhao was named best director for her debut feature “So Young,” while William Chang and Alfred Yau collected the prize for best art direction for their work on Wong Kar-wai’s “The Grandmaster.”
