Disney Engages Anil Kapoor and Daughters

HONG KONG – Anil Kapoor, the Indian star of “Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol” and “Slumdog Millionaire,” is spreading his wings as producer and has pacted with Walt Disney Studios on family film “Khoobsurat.”

The picture is now shooting in Rajasthan with Shashank Ghosh as director and Kapoor’s daughter, actress Sonam Kapoor (pictured) in the lead.

The story, a remake of 1980 family comedy “Khoobsurat” starring the legendary actress Rekha, follows an exuberant and fun girl who upsets the lives of a royal family. The cast also includes Kirron Kher, Ratna Pathak Shah and Amir Raza Hussain. Anil Kapoor is not expected to appear on screen. He produces, alongside another daughter Rhea Kapoor, through his Anil Kapoor Film Company.

Kapoor starred in Fox’s “24” as Omar Hassan and took the show to Indian broadcaster Colors, where he set it up as producer and star. He has previously produced films including “Gandhi My Father” and “Aisha.”

Disney India is expected to distribute the film from mid 2014. “For a long time now we were looking for a script with Disney’s values and we’re happy to have found that in ‘Khoobsurat’,” said Rucha Pathak, Senior Creative Director – Studios, Disney UTV.
