Pinterest Sticks Active Pins Into Flicks

Social site adds ‘active’ pins for Netflix, Flixster and Rotten Tomatoes with enhanced info on titles

Pinterest, the social site that lets users share image “pins” of stuff they like, is teaming with Netflix, Rotten Tomatoes and Time Warner’s Flixster to serve up more info on films that fans stick on their boards.

The new Pinterest movie pins include details such as content ratings and cast members directly on users’ pin-boards.

Pinterest announced the movie pins Monday, along with two other new enhanced varieties: product pins, which show info on pricing, availability and where to buy; and recipe pins, with details like cook time, ingredients and number of servings.

In addition, Pinterest is making the “Pin It” button available in mobile apps, to enable on-the-go pinning.

San Francisco-based Pinterest, founded in 2010, had 29.5 million unique U.S. visitors in March, making it the 39th-largest Web property, according to comScore. The site skews heavily female in the U.S., with 80% of Pinterest users in the States estimated to be women, according to Georgia Institute of Technology study published in January.
