Montgomery Conference Relaunching in Mold of Davos, TED Talks

Annual Los Angeles-based tech event hosted by banker who advised on MySpace sale

Oasis the Montgomery Summit

The banker who advised MySpace in its sale in News Corp., James Montgomery, is giving a makeover to his annual Los Angeles-based tech conference, now dubbed “Oasis: The Montgomery Summit.”

Montgomery said in a statement that the decade-old conference will now take cues from the World Economics Forum in Davos, Switzerland and TED Talks in inviting global finance leaders to be speakers. In past years, the summit has served as a forum to connect start-ups with potential investors. Facebook, Twitter and Pandora all presented at the conference before they went public.

Announced speakers include Ashish Thakkar, founder of the Mara Group, and Brazilian mining magnate Bernardo Paz. Other speakers will be announced next month. Conference will be held March 5-6 at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel in Santa Monica.
