Microsoft Reveals Tentpole Games to Launch with Xbox One

'Call of Duty,' 'Assassin's Creed,' 'FIFA,' 'Battlefield,' 'Madden NFL,' 'Forza Motorsport' among franchises to launch with new videogame console

Microsoft has released the full list of 23 games that will launch with the Xbox One this fall. As expected, the titles will include tentpoles like Microsoft Studios’ “Ryse: Son of Rome,” Activision’s “Call of Duty: Ghosts,” and Ubisoft’s “Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag” and “Watch Dogs.”

Company made the announcement at Gamescom, the annual game confab taking place now in Cologne, Germany.

On the list of launch titles:

Square Enix’s reboot of the Eidos game “Thief” will be released in February 2014.

Microsoft already had said the next “Halo” game wouldn’t appear on the Xbox One until 2014.

Tapping into the appeal of soccer across Europe, gamers who pre-order the Xbox One on the continent will receive a free copy of “FIFA 14,” Microsoft said. Microsoft will also sell a “Call of Duty” bundle in the region.
