Guagua Prods. is launching baseball documentary “The Miguel Sano Story” as a follow-up to its doc “Ballplayer: Pelotero.”

Filmmakers are starting a Kickstarter campaign to raise $25,000 over 30 days to continue documenting Sano’s career as he enters his third year within the Minnesota Twins farm system.

Sano, a native of the Dominican Republic, signed for $3.15 million in 2009 as a 16-year-old. The aftermath of the signing, with Sano accused of lying about his age, was part of “Pelotero.”

Filmmakers Jon Paley, Ross Finkel and Trevor Martin said, “The end of ‘Ballplayer: Pelotero’ was just the beginning of Miguel’s journey. For the first time ever on film, we will tell the complete story of a future star’s rise to fame.”

“The Miguel Sano Story” will be co-directed by Paley, Finkel and Martin.

The original documentary was distributed by Strand Releasing last summer and grossed $46,000.

Kickstarter raised $2.8 million last week to fund the “Veronica Mars” movie.
