It’s been a particularly digital week for CBS, as the Eye announces the launch of an app that offers full-episode streaming of its programming just one day after striking a digital syndication deal for “The Good Wife.”
Primetime, daytime and latenight skeins will be available for streaming on the app for iPhone and iPad to “extend the reach of the shows’ audience” and “provide more flexibility and opportunity for catch-up viewing,” per the Eye.
App also offers second-screen features for shows including “CSI,” “How I Met Your Mother” and “The Late Show With David Letterman.”
Eye is windowing daytime and latenight content 24 hours after initial airing; primetime shows will go out eight days after broadcast.
“We have been methodically and strategically finding new ways to satiate the appetite for our content on new platforms, while tapping into the tremendous revenue provided by doing so,” said CBS head Leslie Moonves. “Our announcement today achieves both of these objectives, while protecting our very healthy current ecosystem. In addition, by making our shows available on all the leading mobile devices out there, we are confident we will bring a whole new set of viewers to the CBS Television Network and build upon our standing as the No. 1 network in the business.”
Net plans to roll out similar apps for Android and Windows 8 this year.
