Aziz Ansari to Release Next Stand-up Special on Netflix

Aziz Ansari has completed a stand-up comedy special hat trick of sorts.

The comedian has decided to release his upcoming special straight to Netflix, he said in an interview with the New York Times. Ansari’s his first special aired on Comedy Central in 2010, and he followed the Louis CK model in 2012 for his second, selling it for $5 on his own website.

Special, titled “Buried Alive,” will debut on Netflix on Nov. 1 and be the biggest stand-up special delivered by Netflix thus far.

Ansari told the paper he thought Netflix “seems like it’s the closest delivery service of media we have that actually matches up to our preferences and expectations.” Ansari himself frequently tweets about binge-watching “Scandal” via the streaming media service.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings and CFO David Wells said in a letter to investors last month they were looking to expand their original programming to include more “broadly appealing feature documentaries” and stand-up comedy specials.
