AT&T is supplementing its U-Verse service with a subscription VOD package and new apps.
U-Verse subs will be able to access a library of 1,5000 movies across devices via the new AT&T Screen Pack, priced at $5 a month. Launch titles are expected to feature mostly older library fare, with “Charlie’s Angels,” “Hotel Rwanda” and “Snatch” said to be among the initial films.
While such a small library doesn’t come anywhere near what Netflix or Amazon Prime offers, AT&T is hoping Screen Pack will keep some portion of its subs in-house for their movie needs. Comcast made a similar move last year, adding its Streampix SVOD service.
A free preview of Screen Pack is available through Jan. 13.
In addition, U-Verse subs will be able to move photos and videos from smartphones to TVs via a pair of new apps, Pix & Flix and Twonky Beam, respectively.
